An Incomplete Review but…
I spent a little over 4 hours in Lips on a Saturday night in mid-December and got a good feel for the place but I didn’t learn everything. I thought I would have plenty of chances to go back but unfortunately I had to cut my visit to El Salvador short and return to PTY the next day. I won’t be able to get back for a while. So there are some holes in the information below that I will speculate about but I thought providing some information would be better than none at all.
Lips is a higher end strip club for Central America but I wouldn’t go so far as to describe it as upscale. The club is in a retail area along a major road and according to my taxi driver it is completely safe to walk the streets at night. Located on the second floor of a building that is much deeper than it is wide, the physical club is clean and safe. You can get some glimpses of the inside along with an idea about what kind of dancers work here from their website: https://www.lipsclubbarelsalvador.com/ .
I arrived at a little after 7 PM and was dropped off in their small parking area in front of the club. At the entrance was an older gentleman talking with the uniformed security guard who was armed with a 12 gauge shotgun (I felt a twinge of nostalgia for the good old days). The older man addressed me in English (probably because I got out of a marked taxi which services the higher end hotels in town) and introduced himself as the club’s private taxi driver (I later used him to go back to my hotel). The guard asked me in Spanish how well I spoke Spanish as he gave me a cursory pat down. I thought it strange the way he asked as I didn’t know if he was trying to be helpful or maybe intimating that I didn’t belong there or something (not really, I think he was just being friendly after hearing me speaking English). I answered him in Spanish making a joke that he found highly amusing and he waved me into the alcove.
