I went to The Northern Gentleman’s Club on a Friday night at 22:00. At the entrance, there was an $8 cover charge. In the vestibule, there is a stairway down to the basement where there is a bar and grill called The Bomb Shelter. As soon as I entered, there was a meaty black girl selling sixteen ounce cans of beer for $5. I got a Sincweiser and found a seat in the corner of the packed-to-capacity club. There were more couples here than I’ve seen at any strip club I’ve been to in the last five years. I ordered another Sincweiser from a waitress. She came back with a twelve ounce bottle that was $4.50. There is a food menu with pizzas for $15 and burgers around $10. There is one small stage with a spinning pole. The contact at the stage was minimal to nonexistent. Patrons could not touch the dancers. Only a few dancers interacted with the stage side tippers. Most seemed content to just strut around. There is a blackjack table in one corner, but it was not being used.

There were 25 to 30 dancers working on Saturday night. There were dancers from all over the United States and a few foreign girls as well. I wonder if The Northern has some type of program to bring in traveling dancers for terms, or if these ladies came to North Dakota after hearing about the crazy money strippers were making in the western oil towns, only to reluctantly settle on Fargo after learning the strip clubs in Williston and Minot had closed down. It was interesting to meet a dancers from Brazil, Siberia, California, and Texas in Fargo of all places. I do like that The Northern publishes its dancer schedule on their website. Dancers were pretty average across the board. Yes, there were some in the 7 to 8 range, but there were also porkers. Hustle factor was high. Dancers were pushing for VIP sessions and overpriced drinks right after they introduced themselves. If you did not oblige, they took off quicker than a funny car on a drag strip.
