Gold-Diggers is no longer stripping

Seeing what looked like a seedy-looking dive called Gold-Diggers on Santa Monica Boulevard the other night, my interest was piqued. From the street it had all the trappings of a seedy and ancient strip joint from the Nixon era. So I looked it up online, where it was listed as a topless bar, or at least a strip club. I'm a new resident of Los Angeles now and I decided to check it out because I need to know where all of the cheap bars are around me and get my bearings. Tonight I made my visit and it turns out that they haven't been a strip club for 3 years now. "They're just a bar," according to the door girl of the nightclub next door. I went in and the tall hipster bartender at Gold-Diggers, bearded Lumberjack Style, told me in confirmation that alas they have no girls. Looking around I saw he was right. Oher than a big framed black and white photo hanging on the wall next to the end of the bar of some dancers from the 1970s gathered for a group shot, no girls. I look around and other than the bartender there was three males occupying the small dark room containing the bar to the right and a stage with two mics on stands to the left. It was all pretty empty. In this early evening crowd one dude was talking to a younger female in a booth, the other two we're just hanging around chatting or sipping their cocktails through a straw. Definitely no girls here, at least not of the female gender. I've got to keep looking for my seedy local strip club, I guess. This place's online listing needs to be changed to "faux dive bar" at least, because as a strip club it's "permanently closed".
