Dearth of customers? Raise your prices!

This is a composite review of several visits over the past six months, two in the early evening (as in 9-10PM) and one after midnight.

Details of this club have been described previously. It is located in an industrial area just north of Kalamazoo at the intersection of Douglas Ave. and Ravine Rd. It shares a building with Lil'Darlings, a topless place that sells alcohol. Deja Vu does not sell alcohol but customers often purchase dual admissions so they can walk back and forth between the clubs. Parking is ample in the main lot and in a lot just to the west of the building. The Deja Vu's main stage is a raised platform with a floor to ceiling stripper pole that allows some dancers to slide down to the stage from a raised cat walk.

This club has a reputation for being a late night club. My earlier visits (as in 9 PM or later) featured either zero dancers or only one or two dancers. My late evening visit featured a half dozen dancers. None of the visits had a good collection of customers, the maximum number of customers that I saw over several visits was maybe 10. I mention this because the club seems to be having trouble attracting a healthy flow of customers. The response of club management to the dearth of customers has been curious from a business perspective. Two dancers told me that management planned to raise the costs of dances from $20 topless and $40 nude for a 2.5 minute dance to $25 topless and $50 nude. I should also mention that the dance areas (both the more private VIP areas and the more open cubicles) are monitored by video cameras and that the songs are typically cut short, around 2:30 or 3 minutes.
