I got dressed up and was feeling pretty good, ready for a fun evening, when I arrived at Controversy for the first time in a few years, a little after 9pm on a Saturday night. I was definitely a little early, and it was definitely a little quiet. There was no room at the tiny bar, however, because a few of the dancers had settled in, so the strikingly hot, quite hospitable bartender came over to my table to take my drink order. Within a few minutes there about 8 or so PLs hanging around waiting for something to happen. Just about then the DJ started to crank up the floor show; and after two dancers did their two songs each, barely stripping down at all, the DJ threatened to stop the show unless people started tipping the stage. Now I understand about livelihood and all, but that’s a bit of a buzzkill to the evening’s entertainment. At any rate, he never cashed in on his threat. Meanwhile, with about a dozen dancers hanging around, only one stopped by to say hello; they were all much more interested in talking to each other or sitting around in bunches watching each other dance. I had two drinks before deciding to move on out of boredom. It is a shame, really, because it is a nice little club — could have been my timing, but it also could be a sign that people aren’t too interested in being there.
