Worth A Look
I headed over to Lipstick at about 10:00 p.m. after getting into Dallas on an evening flight. It’s on Harry Hines Boulevard, which is a heavily travelled main road, so I was surprised to see a number of streetwalkers blatantly strolling up and down the block next to Lipstick. It’s in a commercial area that, while not upscale, doesn’t really look that bad, except for the streetwalkers.
The door girl asked if I wanted the regular entry for $7 or the $30 VIP entry. This is the first time I have ever been presented with the option of two different cover charges at the front door. I asked her what the difference was, and all she could say was the $30 cover allowed entry to the VIP area. Since I had never been here before and had no idea what the VIP looked like or what benefits it provided, I opted for the $7 cover.
Inside the main stage is to the left, a large island bar directly ahead, with satellite stages at either end of the bar. There is another bar in the back, and behind that, the “VIP” area. The only thing that separates the VIP area from the rest of the club is the back bar, so it’s easy to see into it by looking over the bar. It didn’t look any different than the rest of the club and didn’t appear to offer any privacy. There were a couple of guys back there, but I don’t really see the point in it. Overall, the club looks pretty nice. I understand it has been recently remodeled.
