I had not been to this club in several years due to the rudeness and pushiness of dancers here in the past and the generally higher prices. For the most part, when I visit Tampa I tend to go to Ybor Strip. However, on a recent visit to Tampa, having seen the same crew at Y-S several times in a row and seeing that recent reviews of 2001 seemed more positive, I decided to drop in on a week-day afternoon. First pleasant surprise was no cover charge.. just a required pre-paid drink ($6) I was given a receipt which I presented to the bartender (real nice looker) for my non-alcoholic drink. The stage and seating area is really fairly small given the exterior size of this building. I can see how it could get very crowded if more than 50 guys were in the club. Dancers were typically getting fully nude by 2nd or 3rd song of their set. Most were in the 7-8 range. None were bad looking to me. I was joined within minutes by a light-skined black dancer from NY. She had a really pretty smile and chatted with me for quite a while. I did buy her a drink ($8), but there was no pressure to do so. She told me that at 2001 the dancers do not have any quota to meet for drinks, so this really is an option. I figured since there was no cover, why not spring for the drink. After a while, she explained about the lapdance arrangements. It's a $5 charge to go back to a secluded area that has mirrored cubicles. No doors or curtains on the cubicles. She said they have cameras over each cubicle and they are observed to make sure rules are followed. There are VIP areas (no cameras) and, of course, the "spaceship". I didn't get prices, since I was not in the market for that. After a while we went back to the private lapdance area. Paid the bouncer $5. Had 1 good, solid Tampa-style full nude lapdance. She seemed a little disappointed that I didn't want more or didn't want to go to VIP, but I assured her I was just there to get a general idea of the club; no budget for anything more... nothing personal. She did ask for a tip on top of the $25 for the dance. I gave her an extra 5, but only because she spent a good bit of time chatting. I generally do not like to be asked for more. I returned to the stageside seats and pretty soon was joined by Kara. She chatted a little, then we went back to the lapdance area. Another $5 to the bouncer. Kara was enhanced; also a solid lapdance. Again, just 1 ($25). Time to go at this point. Total time in club about an hour. Total cost about $80. By comparison, if I had gone to Ybor Strip and paid the cover, bought one drink for myself and one dancer drink and had 2 lap dances with 2 different girls it would have been $80. So about the same difference in cost. It was good to see some new dancers. I will likely return in the future.
