Visited: Wednesday Afternoon

After a hiatus, I recently made a visit to Follies. I was very decisive into going to Blaze but backed out at the last minute and made the U-turn to Follies since it’s been four months since my last visit. Follies is located in a highly commercial area on the busy international strip of Buford Highway across the street from the large Plaza Fiesta shopping center and next to Pep Boys. I tried to visit the club at least once and occasionally twice a month but work and life kept getting in the way. I work up to 60 hours every week. My mother was recently diagnosed with stage II lung cancer and my Father has dementia, so my dedicated clubbing has decreased significantly as a result. I needed an escape from all of the stress so a trip to the “Holy Land” was in order.

I arrived here one Wednesday afternoon just after 12:00. I made it just in time as the Valet Parking guys were just starting to set up shop. In the past Valet used to be $5 but since at least last year the price went up to $10. At one time I remember even paying $20. But I believe $10 is the standard price now. Nowadays, I try to show up early before they set up or park across the street at the shopping center. However, be very careful when parking across the street as security has caught on to those parking and walking directly across to Follies. Especially at night.

There is no cover charge during the week but the door girl giving the pat down encourages a tip. On Saturdays and Sundays it is $5 during the day. After buying a $5.50 bottle of Corona, I made my way to the high top chair directly next to the VIP. I like this table and specifically this chair because I have a lot more “elbow” room compared to the other high chairs. The music early in the day largely consists of a mixture of old classic rock, soul, and some pop music. Throughout the day, however, the music mostly shifts to popular rap and party-oriented tracks. The DJ rarely talks except for announcing dancers, the VIP, and the rare warning of a customer’s vehicle being towed next door at Pep Boys. The songs are not shortened and are played out fully. Many songs last squarely between 3 to 4 minutes.
