Great Entertainers – Abused Scanned Driver’s License Data
Lust has been my favorite club in the area for quite a while. It has the most girls, the best looking ones and is also a lot of fun in the afternoons when the others in the area are basically dead. Prices for drinks and dances are very consistent with the rest of the area and I have dropped a lot of dollars there. However, this review will start with what I consider a significant betrayal from my last visit . Basically, they used the information obtained by the required driver’s license scan for their mass-mailing. So here’s the deal. For a while now Lust has required driver’s license scans to enter the club. Unfortunately this has become the normal in the area with only one that I know of not requiring it now. I’ve only been halfway concerned with it as I figured if they started using this data for more than security reasons, you would think that would result in a severe blowback plus I’ve never had any problems.
So, at my last visit several weeks ago I asked the manager who was admitting me about the scanning and how it requires me to trust that they protect this data well. His response was to reassure me that they collect this only to be able to handle barring individuals from the club for various reasons. He explained that when they scan the licenses, if there is an issue with a patron and they have to restrict someone from the club, they flag it in the system. Any other attempts at entry will then alert staff when they scan that license. He specifically said the rest of the visitor’s data is not retained but is destroyed within 24 hours. I liked that answer and was familiar with the manager and trusted him, so I went along with the scan and had a great time like most of the other reviewers convey. Well, two weeks later I received in the mail an advertisement for the club that had my full name, including my full middle name on it. The thing is I live in a different state and about 90 minutes away. In other words, nobody at my house would expect such a mailing with my full name on it. This is not something I want to explain to everyone. Luckily, I saw it and threw it away before any of my family saw the suggestive pictures, crazy special events planned and coupons printed on the card. I called the club and asked for them to remove me from their mailing list which they clearly got from my license scan. The person who answered apologized profusely, took my info, sweared they would take care of this and wish it never happened. The thing is, it did happen and after I was assured very specifically they weren’t going to do this. So lesson learned. I guess I should have known that these establishments can’t be trusted to value your privacy and personal information. I kind of thought this place was different since it had been so good to me otherwise. My mistake.
Ok, so that’s my rant. If you can get past the fact they are using your driver’s licenses to market to you, then here’s some details on the club.
