Visited: Wednesday Afternoon

I was returning from Phillipsburg NJ this Wednesday afternoon, and decided to take a short detour to check this place out, having never been there before. Arrived around 1:30, a few cars in the parking lot, one leaving as I entered. Previous descriptions are accurate, in a door from the lot, then you have to step up to enter the second door, easy to trip if not paying attention. Through a metal detector at the second door, which I don't know if it was in use or not on this afternoon, since I had both a pile of keys on me as well as a pocket full of change, but it didn't go off, maybe only used in the evening. Anyway, I see the mirror surrounded stage with pole directly in front of me with high top tables and stools in the room. Pool table room to the left, bar straight ahead to the left of the stage. What I found very interesting here is the old wood carved back bar, truly a work of art, with a lot of intricate carvings, a shame it is not better presented, as it is cluttered with signs and cords hanging, along with some string lights. Some dim color changing spot lights in the ceiling shining on it could really set it off. But I digress...no one on stage when I entered, so I sat at the bar and the barkeep slowly walked in my direction and took my order for a $3.50 draft beer. I noticed ashtrays on the bar, so I knew smoking was allowed, something I am not fond of, having quit many years ago. Only one I saw smoke while I was there was the barkeep. I did notice a dancer sitting with the lone other customer at the bar, so I figured someone will dance eventually. Well another dancer appeared after about 10 minutes and took the stage. One song, then topless the second song, then down to make the rounds for tips at barside. Nothing exceptional displayed, and not much more in convo then hello, how are you today, grab tip, move on. I should note that two other patrons had entered prior to this and sat at the bar, apparently locals, since the dancers appeared to know them. Other dancer takes over, rinse, repeat. I did notice a sign that had posted dance prices as $20/song topless, $40/song nude, $75/15 minutes, $150/30 minutes with two drinks included. There was no indication where those were performed, and I did not inquire, since neither dancer really captivated me. I did use the restroom, and be prepared for somewhat of a fright, as the urinal does not flush, and the odor of urine is very strong, as in probably many folks have missed the urinal over time, or perhaps it is because it doesn't flush. This is a one person rest room, as the crapper is exposed at one end and the urinal at the other end, wash basin in between, no paper towels, electric hand dryer only, yet there is a wastebasket under the hand dryer, strange. I put my ratings in the middle for a first time visit, since the only thing that really interested me was that old back bar, but in all fairness I was only there for less than an hour, so my observations may not be representative of the establishment as a whole. I may stop again if in the immediate area, but I certainly would not go out of my way just to go here. Even though only the barkeep smoked while I was there, when I got in my vehicle I immediately noticed that stale smoke odor, so it must be embedded in the place. Probably worth stopping for a cold brew if you are driving by and don't mind the smoke smell.
