Not a Lot of Mileage, but Still Enjoyable

As I and others have written, clubs in North Carolina, generally, and in Charlotte, specifically, are not that great, so if you're passing through and going to do some clubbing, you automatically have to lower your expectations. That said, I had a nice time at Candi Cabaret a year ago when I was last in town, and I was looking forward to making another visit.

Stopped in at 6:00 last Friday night. The parking lot was a bit tight, and I got one of the last spaces behind the building; no charge for parking except right up front. On entry, they walked me though a metal detector, scanned my ID, and briefly patted me down. No cover at this hour. I did not order anything to drink, and was not hounded to do so. If fact, I did not see a single waitress, so I think if you want a drink, you have to go to the bar to get it.

This club is sorta small and very non-fancy, and while not packed at this hour, it seemed pretty lively with about 20 dancers and maybe that many customers. In the hour I was there, the stage was empty about half that time. Few people even watch the stage, in part because the club is long and narrow, with the stage set up at the far end, so only the few people sitting close can actually see the stage, which is raised up only a foot or so. This place is more about individual dances, which are done out on the floor, and there are no private rooms.
