Front Room Romance
Club Pink, on Powerline Road just south of Sample Road, offers totally different day and night shift experiences. Almost every night, the club features a celebrity DJ and becomes a packed-to-the-rafters, make it rain destination for young guys and hip-hop dancers. Day shift is a laid-back, relaxing atmosphere with BOGO drinks, fun-loving girls, and what appears to be a regular crowd of bar customers.
Physically, it’s a little grey hat box of a building, with a tiny parking lot on the North side. No charge to park during the day (and, in 10 or so visits over the past few years, I have never not found a spot). No cover when you enter during the day; you step into the main room with a stage roughly in the center, DJ booth to the left, bar to the right, and two somewhat suspect one-holer bathrooms. The bar is usually busier than the tables; dancers circulate among patrons; the DJ plays urban music but keeps the volume low enough for conversation.
On a recent two-day visit to Ft. Lauderdale, I stopped in to Pink just after 3:00 both afternoons. Dancers both days were all AA, mostly fit and slender, averaging a 7 in looks and an 8+ in personality. Girls put a lot of energy into their stage sets, then circulated. My impression is, the whole point of being here on days is to relax and interact with the dancers. Zero pressure for lappers in the back, which is a) a refreshing change from other Pompano clubs, and b) a way to avoid what would be the lousy entertainment value resulting from the DJ constantly cutting songs to two minutes or less. After a sampling a few ladies, I struck up a conversation with D*****, a tiny, fit girl with a great sense of humor. She turned out to be the reason for returning the next day; she was really cool to talk to and playful the entire time we hung out. Precisely the experience I wanted after a busy day with clients.
