Kongo Club is OK, but don’t go out of your way to visit

I visited the Kongo Club in late September. It is easy to find, located north of Mitchell on Hwy37 on the west side of the highway between Lake Mitchell and the Mitchell Airport.

September is a dead time in South Dakota, and the Kongo Club is not exception. Tourist season ends about Labor Day and hunting season starts in October, so the Kongo Cub was pretty deserted. There were 5 or 6 dancers there and about 10 patrons, including 3 couples. At that time anyway, I got the impression that to the patrons there it was more of a place to drink than to see strippers. There was a $5 cover, paid at the bar. The bar is lit as one would except a bar to be lit, not as dark as one would like a strip club to be. There was an African American dancer and a Hispanic, all of the others were what I call midwestern nondescript. Not ugly, but not knockouts either. Some of the dancers are traveling dancers, the rest appeared to be locals.

The stage is sunken by a couple of steps in a corner of the bar. Tipping is at the stage and there were 3 or 4 of us tipping, including a couple. I got mixed interactions at the stage, some of the dancers were standoffish, but a couple were friendly and allowed a bit of touching, but only one way.
