I’m the first reviewer ever for this club! Woo! 😁
So first off, to put this review in context: I am a dancer and this club review will be from that perspective. I’ll try to be as detailed as possible since this club hasn’t been ever reviewed.
Place:
This club is just outside of Lubbock city limits where 98th street and i27 intersect. It’s sort of “out there” by Lubbock standards, but by objective standards getting there is a breeze.
From the exterior, it looks like a nondescript, oversized shed. From the inside, it has a really nice interior layout. This is a brand new club that opened in October 2020. When you first walk in, there is a lobby area. Then behind there, is where the main club is. When you walk in the club, you visually see a large rectangle. To the left, is the bar and restrooms. To the right, is some seating. Directly in front on the opposite side, is a visible room under red lights where the topless dances happen. There are 4 comfy chairs to accommodate that. In the middle-ish, There are two large stages. There are three poles on one of the stages, and no poles on the other one. On the main stage, the center pole is a fireman’s pole if a dancer wishes to slide down from there to begin her stage set. The poles I think are 20 feet high? And they spin. I like them. There is an upstairs area as well, for people to sit and be able to see the club overall from above. There is an area also in a couple of spots for the vip dances. And also another separate room for the champagne room.
The club has a dress code like no sweat pants, and no gang wear. Most customers dress casually. The music is a wide range of genres.
This club is a byob club, so it’s on the customer to remember to bring their own alcohol. The club is closed on Mondays. Every night, the club opens at 7pm. It closes at 4 am every morning except on Saturday nights when it closes at 5am. If under 21 years old, the club will have one wear a “minors” shirt over their outfit to make themselves more easily identifiable. Due to weird Lubbock laws, after 2 am, the club is required to take away the alcohol. Some customers get sneaky with how they hide the alcohol.
For dancers: the dressing room is large, clean, and lockers are available for now. A tanning bed and shower is provided, if one wished to use them. The DJ booth connects from the dressing room.
People:
For quite a while, Jaguar’s was the only club in the area. The next nearest competition was in either Amarillo or Odessa, about a two hour drive away. Some disgruntled staff members from Jags decided they wanted to make their own club instead, and so they did. They are friendly people. So are the dancers, IMO. Most dancers are on the younger side, though some are older. There is a range of ethnicities and body types. Most would probably rate most of the dancers in the 6-8 category as far as looks go. Most dancers are Lubbock locals.
Mileage: as far as I can tell, dances are generally two way contact. Though some customers will keep their hands by their side. The handsy factor is less at Angelwitch than others clubs I know of in Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, and Ft Worth. Also, unlike the bigger city clubs, the staff members take a more active role in monitoring dances against too much shenanigans. (Generally most places I’ve been at Texas, you’re on your own to enforce boundaries)
Customers themselves: this is a late night kind of place and it takes a while for things to get going here. It’s annoying waiting for customers to show up at the club, but when they do arrive, wow most are easygoing customers, Many of them, just say hi to them and make idle chit chat and it takes like half a song or less for most to say whether or not they are ready for a dance without you asking. I only ask for the sale if they haven’t said anything after 2 or 3 songs. My personal experience the past few shifts, is that most of the money is made at the end, and there is a LOT of idleness in the meantime. It’s not a bad idea to bring a book and keep yourself engaged in the meantime.
Maybe because it’s a new club, but I haven’t even seen too much established furniture customers either? During the times it’s quiet, I really mean it. I haven’t seen too much either of dancers hanging out with regulars for extended periods of time either.
For dancers: This place does do scheduling. Nothing super locked in, just “oh hey, what days will you be working next”. They want dancers to do 4 shifts a week, and one of those days to be either a Sunday or a Wednesday. If you do not do 4 shifts in a week, then the managers are okay with that but a dancer will be on the hook for a $100 house fee per shift. Otherwise. the house fee is determined by what time you show up and that ranges from $20-$70. If you arrive after midnight on the weekend, the house fee is $100.
Prices:
I honestly wish I could remember the cover charge. I think it’s either $25 or $30. I know there is also a membership option, and it’s advertised 13 or more visits to the club within a calendar year would pay for itself. I do not know the costs of water, soda, or Red Bull that the club sells. On Sundays the cover charge is $10. On Tuesdays the cover is $5–and that $5 ends up going to the city and not the club. Wednesday offers $5 off of the cover charge if you have a college ID.
Dance options:
In the red light room downstairs: dances are topless only and $20 per song. There are four comfy seats for that. On Sundays between 7pm-10pm, the dances are $10/song,
Upstairs: dances here are considered “vip” and are full-nude and $30 per song. A wristband is required for a vip song, and the cost of that is a one time charge of $15 for the whole night. There are cubicles provided that provide greater privacy for dances than the ones downstairs. I think there are 7 cubicles? There is also 4 comfy chairs on the opposite side of the club upstairs for vip dances. But while there is more comfort, there is also less privacy unless the club is slower and nobody else is up there.
Champagne room: The rooms follow the general Texas model of set-your-own-price. Champagne rooms are sold in half-hour time blocks. A dancer can charge anything for her own price, but $350 is the minimum. Then there is the cost of the room, and that is variable. Dancers can’t set the price there, that is determined by staff members at that time. Haven’t sold a champagne room yet, but did notice a camera in there when touring the club.
My overall opinion: I like this club. It has a good vibe. I intend on having this club in my rotation as a place to keep coming back to. It’s also a decent midway point when between Denver and Central Texas, two areas I tend to go back-and-fourth between. Dancers can expect more money consistency and potential in a place like DFW. Unless it’s the weekend, the more ambitious should probably just keep on driving that way. But I like the customer’s manners here. I like the laid back environment and I will be returning.
