Afternoon Value
Found myself near Eight Mile Road in the early afternoon and took a chance on Trumpps. Valet was $7, no cover; let the bouncer know I preferred a seat at the bar. The club's physical plant is similar to other Eight Mile clubs of the same vintage (PHC, Coliseum, Players)--spacious interior focused on a large main stage; two poles; high ceiling over the stage. Bar is to the right as you enter, tables and booths surrounding the main stage, VIP in a balcony at the rear of the club, big screen TVs along the walls, modern sound and lighting systems. Bar seating on three sides, with the best seats on the back side facing the stage already taken with customers and dancers. No problem; service was fast and friendly, and to my surprise all drinks were half price until 3:00 pm. :-) A dancer slid in next to me within a minute of my drink arriving. She (blonde, enhanced boobs, 30+ but fit, Michigan accent) was friendly but not exactly my type; stayed for a few minutes until her stage show started. Overall, talent was OK, close to PHC and Players day shifts in my limited experience: most in the 6-8 range, a 33/67 ebony/ivory ratio, no knockouts, but no grandmas or chubbies, either. Relaxing, "regulars" vibe at the bar, relatively few PLs seated at booths by 1:30 or so. Ordered a NY steak for lunch, which was excellent--done precisely to order, and $11 as I recall. So far, so good. Following lunch, I tipped a dancer more to my liking (slender AA) during her stage routine. She joined me a few minutes later; nice conversation and some friendly Detroit-style touching led me to accept her proposition to visit the VIP. Up the stairs (pro tip: let your dancer go first), $20 to the bouncer, and picked out a sofa for the dances. VIP is open plan, with several sofas and chairs and only low dividers between the groupings. Nowhere near the privacy of Coliseum's curtained booths or even Players' beaded curtains. No worry; I was only interested in dances and we had the VIP to ourselves (except for the bouncer and the DJ. VIP dances were $25 each; after 4, I thanked the dancer and returned to the bar for one last value-priced drink.
Detroit PLs have a lot of options, and the level of VIP "fun" at Trummps is likely constrained versus nearby alternatives. OTOH, from noon to 3:00, Trummps is a real bargain--"local joint" prices in an upscale club with boobies on display. I'll be back.
