Nice Club, Worth a Visit

After hanging out with Nicespice for a while at Perfect 10, I decided to check out Sugars while there was still time before the closing hour (2:00 a.m. in San Antonio). Sugars is only a couple of miles down the road. It’s in a nice looking building on the frontage road for I-410. For some reason, it has a large shark replica hanging over the front entrance. Did it use to be a seafood restaurant?

I arrived pretty late, probably close to 1:00 a.m. The cover charge was $10. It looks nice inside, too, although I would still rate it as a mid-tier club versus upscale. The main club area is one large, split level room. The large island main stage is to the right as you enter, level with the front part of the large bar to the left. To the right are tables and seating areas. Up a couple of stairs is the back of the bar, which is two or three feet higher than the front of the bar, an unusual set up I have never seen before. The bartenders have to stretch to hand you your drink if you are at the back part of the bar. A domestic beer was pricey at $7.

There was a pretty good crowd, but it was nothing like the cheap drink crowd at Perfect 10. There were probably 30 or so customers, including a group of three or four couples that monopolized the stage most of the time I was there. There were probably an equal number of dancers, most pretty good lucking, but not quite up the the standard of Perfect 10. Most were white or Latina, but there were a couple of AAs. One average looking Cubana circled the club every 10 minute and hit me up for a dance every time she passed me. Very irritating. Is this a technique that actually works? Do guys actually get a dance from an undesirable dancer on the 6th request after turning her down 5 times, just because?
