Some friends were in from out of town, so I decided to take them to Mitchell Brothers, something of a San Francisco institution. We arrived at around midnight on a Saturday and paid the $40 cover. Needless to say, the place was pretty dead compared to the old days. To those unfamiliar with Mitchell Brothers, there is one main stage and then a smaller stage called the Green Room where they have girl on girl shows, or at least they used to. There is also a theater where they show porn, a room where they conduct the lap dances, and a number of private rooms for private shows. On this night, the room with the main stage was less than half full and I think they had less than ten dancers working. We sat in the front row as sometimes the dancers will come off the stage and give lappers in exchange for tips. For the most part, the dancers were OK except for one Russian dancer who yelled at us for more money although we had already tipped fairly well. The talent at MBOT isn't what it was, but it is still some of the best of city with consistent seven and eights and even an occasional nine. Ethnically, not much variety with most of the girls being white with a few Asians. We were fairly consistently solicited for dances or for private room sessions, where pretty much anything goes depending on the girl's menu. Not cheap, however, and the prices dancers quoted me started at least several hundred dollars. It appears management has significantly raised the cost to rent a private room. I only ended up having one lap dance, which was from Mia Michaels, a longtime performer and a friendly Asian dancer, who gave an OK topless dance that allowed a significant amount of touching. Overall, Mitchell Brothers remains a unique strip club that is worth experiencing every once in a while but it is pricey, doesn't have much energy (at least when I was there), and is certainly a shadow of its former self.
