The Dog is Okay
The Red Dog Cafe has been a staple of Oklahoma City strip club life for many dancers and customers for a long time. Many years ago, this was the only club that didn't have a pole on its main stage. It was also known for its sunken bar area, serving food, and being biker-friendly. It was also customer-friendly in that you could get some mileage for your money. Many of the dancers in Oklahoma City started at or worked at the Red Dog. Nowadays, the Red Dog still offers food at reasonable prices including one of the best hamburgers, or cheeseburgers, in the city. Many customers come in from opening time through lunch time for the food and a nice show. The bar is still sunken and this this gives customers a good look at the bartender. The Red Dog is also one of the few remaining clubs with a waitress, which is a nice touch. Overall, the interior hasn't changed too much. There are still several pool tables just in front of the lap dance area and then the entertainment area. The stage now has a pole and there is a lip around the stage about 6 inches down for the ladies to operate from. It is not very wide and the dancers have to be careful on it. There is a very small side stage and a hanging bird cage like dance area over in one of the seating areas. The dance area has a couple of ratty looking seats that could have come from the backend of an old pickup truck, a large floor fan, and most dances are given in a chair in the corner. On this visit, there wasn't a bouncer but the light level in the lap dance area didn't leave room for a lot to happen. There were two dancers there when I got there, Trixie was one and I can't remember the other's name, and then Gemini arrived about a half hour later. While I was there for about 2 hours, dancers kept coming in to work. Most of them, once dressed, stayed to themselves over to the side of the bar. There were also not a lot of customers and this may have contributed to their unwillingness to circulate. All in all, the Red Dog is an okay place to kill some time. The two ladies that danced for me did decent dances with no mileage to them whatsoever. The food was great and the beer was cold. Will I go back? If I am in this part of Oklahoma City with time to kill, I will. After all, the Red Dog Cafe is the only iconic strip club left on NW 10th in OKC.
