The good, the bad, the Gras
Mardi Gras is not the only club in Springfield/Western Mass. But it is by far the largest and basically the only one that's not a shithole, as president Trump would put it. The club has had its ups and downs over the years both in the talent and "services" categories, being mostly down in both over the past few years. But just when I get ready to write this joint off things turn around and I have a good time. That's what happened on this last visit about 2 weeks ago on a Saturday night. There was a good variety of attractive ladies, no real dogs, not too many hard sells, I got to see some pussy on stage and I left happy after my "dance";) Some more details...
I. Location
The Gras is located right on the edge of downtown Springfield. Essentially it separates the surrounding ghetto, which starts on the next block, from a gentrified area of bars, restaurants and offices. As you would probably guess from it's location, the patrons are a very diverse mix. On this last visit I saw everyone from a businessman in a suit and middle-aged couples to college kids, bikers, drug dealers and of course... other creepy old perverts like myself. The club has its own fenced-in parking lot immediately out front. It costs $5 to park there unless you do like me and tell them that you're going to the restaurant next door (also owned by the club). Then it's free. Because the Gras shares the lot with the restaurant and also a queer club around the corner, spaces can be hard to find between 8 and 11 on Friday and Saturday nights. The aisles and spaces are also really tight so I wouldn't park there if you have a nice car. It's difficult enough to get in and out when your sober. So as you can imagine drunk assholes like myself end up playing bumper cars when leaving the club after downing a pitcher of beer and dropping a few Jager-bombs. There's a large more spacious parking lot directly across the street. It also costs $5.
