Finding Diamonds in the Rough
I've been to Criket a few times recently, and overall it was an underwhelming experience. But I will also keep going back because there are a few exceptional things that make it worth my time and money.
Facilities: Criket is both tiny and a little dingy compared to some of the others I've visited in the area (Flight Club, Landing Strip, Penthouse). But it's not a full-on dive like Bogart's. I consider it a mid-level club. Everything seemed clean and in working condition, but it just sort of lacked the polish and atmosphere of some of the other clubs. (Part of this is lighting; I think it was generally dimmer than I prefer.) At times, the small size works in the club's favor: Even when it's not packed, it feels more crowded and alive than some of the larger clubs. Plus, I saw a lot more tipping of the stage performers, since you don't have to walk a mile to get there. The curtained VIP area can be hit-or-miss: some booths are a little more spacious and private, while some feel too cramped or too dark for my comfort.
Dancers: This is my biggest disappointment with Criket. They have a fairly eclectic group of dancers most nights, but very few who are top-to-bottom stunning. (In fact, I've seen two of their servers who I would probably rank above all but my two favorite dancers.) They always have a good number of women working, so I'm confident most patrons can find someone they like, as long as their expectations are appropriately set (walk in thinking 6s, not 10s, and you might get a positive surprise). Maybe I'm unfairly comparing Criket to pricier clubs where your dollar doesn't stretch as far, but the dancer selection seems below-average for this part of Michigan. I didn't do anything other than buy a few dances, so I can't comment on the availability or value of extras.
