First Disappointing Visit
My first visit to Atlantis a couple of years ago sold me on the place as a go-to any time I’m in Philadelphia. The have exactly the kind of girls that appeal to me, and on every visit I’ve made since I’ve found at least one dancer who was eager to go the extra mile to make sure I left happy and would come back again.
Unfortunately, on my latest visit Atlantis broke my run of luck. Mind you, it was the first visit I’d gone to the club before about 10pm at night, but reviews on here of afternoon visits made it seem like it was still possible to have fun here earlier in the day. Maybe that’s so, but not on this particular Wednesday. I had gotten into Philly after midnight and was due to take a 5pm train out of town. I walked into the club about half an hour after it opened, only to find it completely empty—as in, not a single girl on stage or anywhere else, no bartenders, no musici, nothing except an apologetic front door man who said the girls would be showing up any minute. Well, who wants to hang out in an empty strip club? Not me. I went to grab lunch and came back again an hour later, around 2:30. It was almost the same. At least the DJ has shown up and there were two other customers at the bar talking to a dancer who looked like she had just come in and had not yet even changed into her outfit. Since I had nothing else to do, I sat at the bar and, once the DJ stepped down from his booth and disclosed that he was doubling as the bartender, O got a beer. About halfway through it, the sole dancer in the joint came back out of the dressing room and stopped by to chat.
She was flirty, but not in the directly aggressive way that I tend to kind of like in some Atlantis girls. Nevertheless, she was good looking and pleasant to talk to. She didn’t offer a table dance or to sit on my lap or anything, but we she held up her end of a conversation about travel and food for a half an hour while I sipped a couple of beers. Eventually, her friend, another dancer showed up and joined us. She and her friend were on the outs—something had happened between them earlier in the day—and they started fighting over who I should get a private dance from. It was actually pretty entertaining, although I think they were semi-serious. I mean, the other two customers had already bailed, so I was the only potential source of cash for them left. Finally, the one who I’d been sitting with first just grabbed my hand, said ‘bye, bitch’ to her ‘friend’ and pulled me into the semi-private area—which was of course completely private given the empty club. She did a couple of dances for me. Both were completely hands on and better quality than I’ve gotten at most other clubs I’ve been to, but even so they weren’t up to the standard I’ve grown accustomed to at Atlantis. No menu was offered, but even if it had been, I wouldn’t have ordered. As attractive as she was, I wasn’t feeling it. After two dances, I decided to cut my losses. And as I wasn’t particularly taken by her frenemy’s looks, I decided that getting to my train early was a better use of my time than hanging out around there any longer.
