First Impressions
I've been reading about HK for years and finally got the chance to go last week - had a great time but definitely would do things a little differently next time.
First off some logistics. I had limited time so I ended up going on a friday afternoon. Took the trolley from SD to the border, crossed into Mexico (took only a few minutes), walked over the bridge and got a Taxi Libre. Despite reading instructions on how to do that bit I still ended up being confused - the bridge you want is a road bridge (with a walkway) directly to the right as you come out of the walkway from the border. At that time of day it was pretty quiet and no one hassled me, the cabs are all the other side of the bridge near the bus station. I went downtown for lunch and then walked up to the club - felt totally safe during the day although it is a pretty run down area north of the arch. Went straight into Hong Kong - intense pat down from the bouncer but no cover, and I was in!
The club isn't as big as I was expecting, there are bigger places in LV and other cities. I arrived at maybe 1:30 and there were plenty of girls, plenty of waiters but only a few customers. The floor shows weren't really happening (just some girls walking around the polls looking bored) and the lights were on way brighter than I expected (soccer on TV). Really very little atmosphere, I'm sure it's more fun in the evening. The other disadvantage of being there during the day was that I was immediately the subject of plenty of attention. Got a waiter, he sat me in a seat and got me a beer and then without me asking started bringing girls over. Now I like to take it slow and wanted to watch the stage shows (as much as they were) but I really couldn't get that across to him.
