A Bit Of Shock And Awe ...

Stumbled upon NY Dolls after a visit to Lido (much better). Small venue. Upon arrival I paid a cover which I think was around $30. A hostess whisked me through a front bar and 2 side stages to the back area which was separate. I was seated at a table with a Russian girl. Immediately asking about my watch and my shoes. Bought her a drink. Asked for dance and went to the benches on the perimeter of the room. Got the hard sale on VIP right away. Then the hostess comes over during the dance and re-pitches me. I am now kinda pissed that within 10 minutes of entry and plenty of drink left I am getting terribly hustled. Place was packed.

About 15 girls in this back room the size of a Dunkin Donuts. All flavors. So in my frustration went to the front; told them I was going to come back. I think the front bar is a better option. First of all, quieter. Long bar. Hot bartenders. Can actually sit at the bar and have a drink. 2 side stages so talent comes and goes. And then after 15, a latin girl approaches me and invited her to sit and drink. Her friend joined. We drank all night. No dances. But good conversation. Listen I'm not shy in these places and enjoy a good grind now and then but the night did not start the way I wanted; it was like shock and awe. Stay away from the meat locker in the back. Chill in front with the same talent in front in a more casual environment. For these reasons I would go back now knowing the lay of the land.
