Club is Looking Up
Divas is the new name for a club located in an industrial area not too far from the Austin airport. For several months before the name change, you could tell that something was happening. New chairs, construction around what looked like it was going to be a bar. (The club is alcohol free, and one of the charming things about it is the vending machines instead of waitresses.) But the new bar serves set ups and ice for those who bring their own beer and alcohol.
When the new stage upgrade went in, the name changed. And with that, it seems that a number of the dancers have headed for other clubs. Another thing that was notable about the old club was the wide range of dancers. The only common thread seemed to be a great attitude. You could find 8s and 9s dancing in rotation with 3s and 4s, but all of them seemed to have a customer friendly outlook, even the Cubans who spoke limited English.
These days there are lots of new faces, but so far, i haven't noticed any big uptick in Hustle. You will often get a friendly "wanna dance?" shortly after you sit down, but the girls are as likely to sit in your lap and talk with you when you say no as they are to move on to another customer. Which sort of makes you want to say yes more often. I've only encountered one ROB in three or four years of going here. Don't recall her name, but I only saw her once, and have never seen her again. She tried to raise the dances after we were finished with the argument that she took off her top for me. I took her to the guy on the front door who gave her a "cut that shit out" stare and told me to pay the regular $10 a dance rate for that day.
