Friday night melancholia

Excuse me for being a little philosophical in this review. I’ve got a tendency towards thinking too deeply about shit, especially after five whiskeys at 2am. But not, usually, if I’ve drunk them at a strip club. Then again, I also have rarely gotten a dance from a “perfect 10” at a club. Even at clubs where I find most of the girls attractive, I tend to adjust my standards of beauty for the enhancements, the makeup, the extensions, the outfits, etc. Of course, a naked booty on your lap is worth more than one in a pair of jeans on the subway, so obviously just the fact that a girl is up close and personal, assuming her breath don’t stink and she’s being sufficiently flirty, will make you find her more attractive probably than if you’d encountered her outside the club.

But in this case, I’m not grading on a curve. I have rarely visited strip clubs on a Friday night—just not a night I usually go out, and usually prefer a less raucous scene—but I found myself at Gallagher’s on a Friday for the first time ever, and found it enjoyable. The tip parade was as merciless as ever, but the average quality of the dancers you were tipping was better than on a Wednesday or Thursday, and the vibe was upbeat and fun. In my experience, the girls at Gallagher’s are not at all standoffish. Those that speak fairly fluent English (not a majority!) seem generally intelligent and friendly. They’ll ask you if you want a private dance, but will gracefully move on if you decline.

One reason I don’t often go to Gallagher’s is because m preference is for black girls, and while the dancers at this club are more diverse than some NYC clubs, they tend to gravitate toward the Russian persuasion. The black dancers I’ve met at Gallagher’s have all been South American, and I haven’t usually found them to be as fun as the NYC-born-and-bred AAs at clubs like Show Palace down the street. One thing I’ve noticed about Gallagehers, though,is that there always tends to be at least one Asian girl dancing every time I’ve visited. Last night, I counted four, which is a veritable cornucopia compared to any other club I’ve been to.
