Thursday Afternoon--One Dancer on Duty

Noticed that 4-Play claims to be "under new management" on their Instagram page, and the recent posts there enticed me to get out of I-95 traffic and see for myself. Located in a shopping center/strip mall on the North side of Copans Road, good signage, lots of free parking. Having given the club a try a time or two before, my expectations were fairly low, but, hey, the dancers shown on Instagram appeared to be a major improvement from my past experience.

Once inside, there were a few regulars at the bar, two servers behind the bar, a couple of managers, and a tradesman using a tape measure on the coolers. And...one dancer. She was cute, chatting with another customer with the music blaring and the stage empty. Ordered a beer from the "bartender," who was polite but had to ask her co-worker about the price (in fairness, all of us have had a first day at work. Still, no one on the stage. Half a beer later, the one dancer began her set. Nothing else going on. I drank up and headed North for old reliable, the Porthole Pub.

New management means, eventually, a new club, and I'm willing to cut the new team a little slack as they build the business. It seems they fired enough of the old dancers that the place is no longer the "island of misfit toys," which is fine with me. Maybe they had other dancers scheduled who didn't show up. And, in fairness, the videos on Instagram make the case that a turnaround is in process. Still, one dancer? Sigh.
