At last a good visit to Show Palace

Show Palace has been, for me, a frustrating club. On the positive, the dancers are mostly hot, mostly friendly, and mostly nude on stage. Negatives: no alcohol, often has been nearly void of customers when I’ve gone, and on two midweek occasions bereft of girls as well. Now, I don’t particularly care for the SRO, “make it rain” type clubs, but there’s also not much more pathetic than paying $20 for the opportunity to sip a near beer watching an empty stage as your ears are assaulted by high decibel strip club music.

My problem, as a couple of dancers have told me on last visits, is that I pop in at midnight expecting the club to be at least a little hopping, but Show Palace is truly an “after hours” club that attracts the guys who have closed out the other NYC clubs at 2am, are already buzzing, and want to keep their party going. Unfortunately, I’m just not that kind of clubber.

However, one night I happened to find myself getting back to the city very late at night from a trip—around 3am—and decided to see if there was any truth to what the dancers told me. I’m happy to report that the rumors were true—in the wee hours of the morning, when the streets of L.I.C. have been left to the rats and taxis, this vampire of a club comes to life. Even so, this club is pretty large by NYC standards, do it didn’t feel crowded. There were also plenty of dancers on the floor at all times, but it still didn’t feel like the we’re waiting their turn to ask me “would you like a private dance” as it has on past visits. One thing I appreciated is that with the three separate stages there was always a good variety of dancers from which to choose. And the club does a good job—much better than most New York clubs—of hiring a diverse group of girls of all ethnicities and body types. (Well, there is a bit of a dearth of thickness, I guess, but there are enough shapely, twerk-worthy little booties to make up for it.)
