Closing for remodel, new owners

Boom Boom Room has been one of the most odd strip clubs in Portland for many years. During the day this place is usually dead yet still open with a smattering of regulars hanging out at the bar or playing video poker, and typically 2 or 3 average or below-average looking dancers who rarely go on stage but usually hang out at the bar or in the dressing room, or occasionally in the PD area with a regular. At night, this place gets packed with customers playing Texas hold-em poker and partying at the bar, sometimes standing room only, and about a dozen dancers with some being pretty hot.

But now, new owners are taking the place over and shutting it down this weekend to begin a (much needed) remodel project. Rumor is that it will re-open as a upscale "gentlemen's club" if such a thing can exist in a basement cave below a Chinese restaurant on Barbur Blvd sandwiched between a lingerie jack shack, an insurance office, and a nail salon. I wish them luck, but have low expectations that it will be successful. I just hope they recruit better looking dancers for day shift and keep some of the sleaze factor that I love so much in Portland dive clubs.
