Pleasantly Surprised
After a dismal visit to Leather and Lace Gastonia, I decided to stop by Leather and Lace South before heading back to the hotel. It’s in small building close to downtown Charlotte. It doesn’t look like the greatest area, but I didn’t feel unsafe. There is a small, cramped parking lot with free parking. I wasn’t asked for the membership card I was forced to 45 minutes previously in Leather and Lace Gastonia. Instead, I was just asked for a $5 cover charge.
Inside, Leather and Lace South is pretty low end. It’s worn and ratty looking. The restroom has a strong urine smell. The finger grips were broken off the faucet knobs. Instead of replacing the knobs, some inserted thumb screws into the knobs to replace the grips. It’s that kind of place.
There is small bar just inside the door. Beer was the usual price—between $5 and $6, I can’t remember exactly which. There is a small, circular stage next to the bar. The main stage is at the far end of the room, but it wasn’t used the whole time I was there. The VIP area is an area about half-way to the stage against one wall separated from the rest of the club with a small rail. Other that the rail, it’s open to the club and offers no privacy.
