Slow Labor Day but club was better

This review is of a visit Monday Sep 4, which was Labor Day. I wasn't expecting much mostly because downtown Portland was quite dead with few people on the streets and most restaurants closed for the holliday. An exception to this was the famous Voodoo Doughnuts, which is only a couple of blocks from this club, which had the usual line half a block long. The area right around Spyce is pretty run down and home to several religious groups aimed at the down and out. I entered the club about 9pm and stayed until about 10:45. I was waved in without any ID check or cover, although there was someone at the front desk when I left so maybe they were charging a cover then.

The club is not large but has several rooms. The main room has a low square stage with 2 poles in the center with about a dozen chairs and small tables around the stage. One two sides are booths, a third side had the bar, and the remaining side had a couple of larger booths with their own mini-stages and poles. There was a second smaller room with its own stage and bar, which began to be used as the evening wore on. There were also stairs to more rooms on a second floor but these were not being used this night. The room was pretty posh with colored lights including strobes which however only one dancer used. The overall light level was not too dark. The ceiling height was reasonable allowing room for pole work. Waitresses were not at all pushy about drinks.

The number of customers and dancers I found pretty good considering how dead the area was. Eventually there were about 30 customers including a number of women. There were about an equal number of dancers. They did two dance sets getting topless in the second song (this is just a topless place, not nude). Songs seemed full length with the DJ announcing the transisitions. A few guys tipped usually $2 to $4 per set.The dancers were about 3/4 white, 1/4 AA, quite a few had tats.
