Second visit was MUCH better than the first...

Came in on a Thursday evening at the end of August. I was here once before, during the depths of the “Great Recession” in 2011, and at that time the place was beyond dead. Well, fast forward 6+ years, and things have definitely changed for the better. I don’t know if it’s because the economy is stronger now, or because it’s summertime, but this place is actually pretty decent now. I’m glad I took a chance and came back. Let’s cover the basics.

The XXXV Club is right off the Garden State Parkway, just south of the Staten Island bridges and north of the Jersey Shore. I think many of the girls who work there commute from both of these regions. It’s a large lit-up building that looks like it may have been a converted warehouse, and it’s surrounded by a massive gravel parking lot. There are often big-rigs parked or idling in this lot, and I honestly don’t know whether they’re making a delivery to an adjacent building or waiting for lot-lizard activity. The place is hard to miss, especially when it’s lit up at night. It’s open very late, til 5 AM on Fridays, Saturdays, and I think holidays; otherwise til 3 AM.

On the evening that I arrived there were two bouncers outside who warned me that there are no cell phones allowed inside, and they told me that I could either leave mine in the car or check it with the attendant inside. I opted to bring it back to the car. This policy is probably the worst thing about this club, and it kind of put me in a bad mood as I entered the building. The bouncers actually lightly frisked me to make sure I had really left the phone in my vehicle. Once inside, I noticed that they were undergoing a renovation, but the place still didn’t look bad. It has the feel of a slutty fashion show, with a stage that kind of reminds me of a cat walk. There are nude mannequins and Greco-Roman-type statues scattered throughout. And the lighting is actually pretty good, kind of a purplish-white, not too dark but not blinding either.
