Decent decor, awful location, needs more girls
Hit the Landing Strip during early dayshift on Tuesday to start off the second day of our mongering tour. I was interested in seeing the place where Craig Sager talked Dennis Rodman out of shooting himself back in 1993. This club was out in the middle of nowhere, on the other side of DTW airport from Detroit.
The building itself looked like a former fire station from the outside. The valet booth was to your left as you enter and stairs immediately lead you up to the second floor. Directly ahead from the entrance is an elevator for those who don't want to negotiate the stairs. The second floor is the main section with a long stage and bar. There is a balcony that is currently closed, this was formerly the VIP area where Rodman took a pistol to face his sorrows. Past the bar is another set of stairs back down to the first floor where the private dance area sat. The club itself was in decent condition, the bar was clean, and everything was in generally good repair.
The only thing that was disappointing was the lack of girls working. Most mid-level dayshifts that we tried out on this mongering tour had 10 or so girls on shift. The Landing Strip had 3 ladies working when we visited. The single 6 was on the arm of her regular the whole time as he ate his lunch. The other two were not really lookers but at least made an effort to dance and approach us.
