Probably never again
After reading some of the recent reviews I thought I'd check out the Lucky Corner for the first time in several years. There was a time when it was a semi-worthwhile stop if you were into high mileage with low-grade talent. Those days have been gone for quite a while now. Whatever those recent somewhat positive reviewers were seeing wasn't on view when I stopped by. Others have described the room where the dances happen - the uncomfortable benches and all.
The thing that I always notice isn't the benches, though. It's the wall that your head is up against at a really uncomfortable angle. If you want to look up at the dancer's face (OK, I know. At the Lucky Corner, why would you want to do that?) you end up scraping the back of your head against the wall. When I showed up about 6:30, it looked as if no dancers were working at all. I asked the guy behind the bar and he said there was one who had just come in. Stupid me, I ordered a beer before I got a look at her. About 2 sips in, she came out of the back room. She was overweight, old and unappealing in every way. So there we were, her and me. The lone dancer and the lone customer.
I bought a $5 dance just to be polite. Then I bought another one because running for the door after just one would have been like tipping the waitress a penny. So I wasted 10 minutes and 10 bucks, plus $2 or so for the beer. Dumb, dumb, dumb. From now on, I'm not going to be curious about the Lucky Corner. It isn't lucky for me. Until I start reading reviews that make it sound really impressive rather than just a notch up from where its always been, I'm staying out of there.
