"Summer Hours," Whatever that means

In Detroit on business, and had an hour to kill before check-in time at my hotel, and decided to check out LaChambre--I was on I-96 anyway, and the club is seconds off the freeway at Telegraph Road. Rolled into the shopping center parking lot at 3:05, and noticed a sign at the club: "Summer Hours--Open at 3:00 pm." Hmmmm. Walked into an empty club--just me and the bartender. Based on a past visit, LaChambre is essentially a dive bar with strippers. This afternoon, it was just an empty dive bar. No matter, Budweiser was $6 and ice cold, and I had nowhere better to be for an hour. Bartender was pleasant enough; music was turned down low (if there is a DJ, he had not yet arrived), and the place (which is pretty large) was dark and quiet. Actually, relaxing. Just not (yet) a strip club.

Half a beer later, two dancers were milling around. Both AA, one on the slender side, the other thick, but both reasonably attractive. The dancer cadre here has huge variance, from young cuties to grandmas and looks from OK to scary. I felt lucky to have the shift start with two in the OK range. Chatted with the first to approach, and then had a few $20 dances in the "VIP area" up at the front of the club--still a group of low-wall cubicles and no privacy whatsoever. Decent grind, probably helped by being the only ones in the area, but no extras requested or offered (and probably not available given the physical layout anyway). Back at the bar for a second beer, still no one on stage, but another customer had arrived and taken the other dancer to VIP. My hour was about up at the end of beer #2, so I headed for the exits; bartender was out front smoking, and I told her goodbye. At this point (roughly 4:00) still no DJ, no stage lights, and only one customer.

I may check back again in the fall, mainly because the club can be fun if your expectations are calibrated. In the meantime, "summer hours" seems to mean, "come back after dark."
