Dark and rainy Sunday evening

On the last day Sunday May 28 of my visit to Philadelphia I visited Atlantis between about 8 and 9 in the evening. I arrived on the subway, the club is 3 blocks from the 40th Street station on the Market-Frankford line.

The club is at the corner of 38th St and Chesnut in a mini-mall that has 2 restaurants and a furniture store and a small parking lot. The club is in the basement under these establishments and is reached by a narrow stair with a small sign on the Chesnut Street side (the narrow end of the building). Cover was $7 and there was a pat-down.

This is a black club. All the dancers were various dark shades and all the staff were black. Also about 2/3 of the customers were black. This doesn't seem to be in an all black neighborhood, it seemed more mixed with a substantial component of South Asians. Also it is near the U. Penn campus.
