The times they are a changin'
As some of you know, this has been my favorite club in Portland for a long time. That said, the times seem to be changing. When the owners went to prison for tax evasion they had to sell the club (to a family member, I think). It's now being managed by a guy who seems to want to "clean up the place." Other reviewers here do a pretty good job of describing the club and its vibe, so I'm going to devote this review to what's new and/or changing at Cabaret II.
The Girls:
Last time I was there I recognized only one or two of the girls. Traditionally, this has been a club where the girls work and stay for a very long time. Lots of the customers are regulars and have their faves. I commented on this to one of the staff who implied that they had let a bunch of girls go who couldn't handle their intoxicant of choice. There are now a larger percentage of minors dancing here than I've ever seen in the past five years. Fortunately, Cab II has a stage for the minors to work when they're not officially on stage so you can get to know the minors if you want to. Also, the new girls are generally up to the traditional standards of the club, which is to say they're mostly thin white girls with the occasional thin Asian or Latina thrown into the mix. I can't remember the last time I saw a black dancer at this club.
