Cheap Booze and Some Dancers, I Guess
This is the first time I've been to this club since it switched from Rick's to The Pony. I stopped in on a Tuesday night, just after 10. The first thing I noticed was that there were more than 5 cars in the parking lot (possibly even 20), which was a LOT in my experience. I had high hopes that maybe things had gotten interesting again. Maybe there were a lot of hot dancers!
I don't think the interior has changed since the Rick's days. As you enter, there's a doorman booth on your right (assuming you walk forward, like a normal human being). The cover that night was $6. Continue on, and the club unfolds to your right. There's a small, unoccupied stage just inside. A larger stage, which was in use by a rather average dancer, straight across the room. There's a raised section toward the front of the building, largely unoccupied. The central area, between the two stages is filled with small tables with 2 or 3 chair each. There were plenty of patrons in this section, but plenty of tables open. Farther back in the building lies the club's best feature. A nice, well-stocked bar. I had a local craft brew in a pint-ish glass for $3. Pretty good deal for a club. Later on, I heard the DJ say they had half-price drinks on Tuesday, which was notable. Also notable is that the DJ just sounded like some guy at the office and didn't even try to do the strip club DJ voice. It was kind of odd. They do have a pretty damned good sound system, though.
So, I enjoyed my beer and watched the action. I saw about 12 dancers that evening. Most were average, with a couple being pretty hot. They were mostly sitting and talking with patrons. After a bit, one of the dancers I considered pretty hot sat down with me. I don't remember her name, but she was wearing a torn up Freddy Krueger looking sweater. Maybe I considered her hot because she was a horror nerd. I don't remember her name. Anyway, I got a dance with her. The private dance room is further back in the club, behind the bar. It's lined with very high-backed and uncomfortable booths with worn out leather. They had these damned things back in the Rick's days. Maybe even the Gold Club days. The dance was okay. Not enough to make me want another, but good enough that it was worth the $25 price. Next, I had a dance with Freddy Sweater's friend (whose name I also forgot). She wasn't as attractive as Freddy Sweater, but sometimes the less-than-hot dancers give an excellent dance. Well, it was worth the $25, but not enough to make me want more.
