A Saturday Night Visit
After hanging out with an old friend and catching up over a few drinks, I decided to head out after he went home to the wife for the night. My first decision was where to go and since I was already in the University District I decided to go to Dreamgirls at Rick's since I haven't been there for a few months. Parking was easy as the lot wasn't too full. There were just enough parked cars to convince those driving by that there was a party going on, but the reality is that most of the cars belong to staff (dancers, valets, etc...).
Paid the cover and went to area where you can enter the middle of the room (closest to the restrooms). Found a seat between the main stage and back stage, as that gives you the best perspective of the entire room. It took one of the two waitress a long while before they came and got my drink order, so customer service was a little light this evening (I've been there on evenings where the waitress is constantly coming around...). Overall talent was okay and I was able to take in several stage rotations before a dancer finally came up to chat. She wasn't my type and the conversation was not very engaging so I passed. Saw a cute blonde on the backstage but she had a couple of customers waiting for her and she didn't seem to be trying to hard to get dances. I'll remember her for the next visit but unfortunately I didn't get her name because the DJ mumbled it when she was announced. Mayra came up to say hi and after catching up for what seemed like half an hour we headed to the VIP room for some fun. The big change I noticed was that the "bead wall" that separated the VIP room from the main room was no longer there. It's just open to all for viewing. However, all of the booths do face away from the entrance to the VIP room.
After I came back out to the main room I hung out for a little longer before calling it a night. Kind of a ho-hum night but enjoyable nonetheless.
