What's the point

After reading the other reviews of the Lamplighter, I was skeptical. But I was in town, and I am a sucker for an amateur night, so I decided to drive the 15 minutes to check it out. I called to confirm they were having an amateur night, and I was told it would be from 10-12. I thought that probably meant 11:30, but since I had finished dinner and was in the area, I arrived at about 9:50.

Wow, what a strange place. I paid my $5 cover, got a light frisk at the door, then headed in. The stage runs along the entire wall from from to back on the left as you walk in. The wall behind the stage is all mirrored. And the front edge of the stage has floor to ceiling glass, so the dancers are in a glass room. Each pane of glass has a small whole at the bottom, about the size that you could slide an iPhone in. This is where you can stuff in some singles, if you are so inclined. The stage is in a room with tables and a row of benches along the partial wall that divides this room from the bar area. The bar area was crowded, so I didn't spend much time there.

A few minutes before 10:00, the dj called all dancers to the stage. He announced 8 names, but only six girls were on stage. They stood there for a few minutes, then all but one left the stage. During this time, they announced the big amateur contest, that would be starting at 11:30! One girl remained on stage to do her window dance, and the evening continued. After 10-15 minutes, I just couldn't take it anymore. There was really nothing that kept me interested in staying. I didn't see any dancers I found attractive, the ones I saw didn't really dance, as much as they kind of swayed and leaned on the glass. It was hard to see the dancer at times, because reflections of the neon beer signs on the glass blocked the dancer. It just wasn't a place I found entertaining at all.
