Revisiting the old standard
After a long time away from Stringfellows it somehow tempted me for a late visit... I remember many years ago Stringfellows used to be the top London club. Others places seemed to overtake it though and when I visited a year or two back, at a prime time, it was close to empty and I left without having spoken to a single dancer! Not having been back since then, I was perhaps remembering its glory days when I stepped in after midnight a few Fridays ago.
What can I say? Still very professional door and desk. Still a good looking club. And yet still now pretty close to empty at the ground floor entrance level and not much more happening downstairs. I stood undisturbed at one bar and surveyed the room, a couple of girls on stage, a handful of girls engaged in conversation with guys around the central floor area. I moved to the bar on the other end of the room, just as quiet, with one solitary girl working on getting a dance out of two guys who didn't seem to be inclined to spend anytime soon.
So, wondering why I'd given Stringfellows another chance and on the verge of finishing my drink and leaving, I was surprised to find events quickly turned around. Too late for a shift change, but from somewhere a new group of girls seemed to be around the floor. One of them made a direct approach and happily turned out to be ticking all my boxes. Dances were all private, fully nude in curtained booths. As has been noted elsewhere, it only takes one dancer to make a memorable strip club experience.
