pretentious and over priced
Recently I happened to be in the South Austin area and had time to kill, so I finally made a return visit to the Palazio. It was about mid-afternoon on a Friday and when I pulled into the parking lot it was more than 50% full. Inside I asked the door girl about it, and she told me there were about 50 dancers there at the time. Now understand that there’s only seating for about 100 customers in the main room, so upon hearing that I almost walked right out, as I hate being hustled. But as I said, I had time to kill.
Surprisingly I wasn’t approached as much as usual by the “wanna dance” crowd. I still got approached a lot, but it wasn’t overwhelming, and I think a dancer may have unknowingly revealed why. She asked me if I was “dressing up” by putting on a button-down, and I had to laugh at that, because I always wear long-sleeve button-downs. On that particular day I was actually dressing down because I had errands to run and so I had put on jeans and boots. So I think from now on I’ll wear jeans more often if it means getting hassled less.
But considering that I was approached less, I still encountered quite a few rude dancers, and of course they always seem to be the ones I would never get dances from. One was a big-boned Asian woman, the other was a brunette with a huge tattoo (think it was a dragon) on her ribcage, who looked like her breasts would sag to her waist if she took off her bra. They both seemed to think I should have been more grateful to be able to sit there and watch the women on stage. Erm, no. As I said, there were about 50 women working there that day, and all but one was absolutely average looking at best. So no, watching a bunch of average looking women dance topless on a stage is not the least bit interesting to me.
