Had been over a year since there was a review of the club. Prior review mentioned that there were new owners and I wanted to check it out to see what had changed. This club is in a more industrial area that during the day is businesses and at night is mainly restaurants and clubs scattered about. Less than four blocks on E 21st street is a big live jazz/blues club that is popular. Magic City being on a main artery of Cleveland I felt safe and no reservations about parking on while trying the club.

Opened the door and there was not cover charge person so I walked in and stood at the far end of the bar. The bar is on the right as you enter the club and the stage is opposite on the left. Stage was rather average size with a small extension to the front with one pole in the center of the larger part. There was once dancer on stage when I entered and tried to get a drink. Men’s room is on the right just beyond the bar and clearly marked. Bathroom itself is not great but looked clean, hand soap and paper towel dispenser was full. Urinals have a divider between the two and are rather tight. On the left just beyond the stage is the table are and what looked like a place that they did lap dances along the back wall. Not a fancy club but you are in the middle of an industrial park. Looks like they have made some renovations recently behind the bar and big high ceilings.

Bar tender came over right away when I stood at the bar and was shot me down with my first three choices of liquor. So finally settled on Jack Daniels. By the time I got and paid for my drink the dancer was off the stage. On each side of the stage are a couple of TV and the Cavs game was on. Good thing because the next half hour there were no dancers. Finally a real cute little, maybe 4’11, gal got on stage. She was a definite performer on the pole and around the stage. Did not catch her name as there was no DJ only one of the dollar fed jute boxes but the sound was good. Guy came to the stage that I assume she had been sitting with. Tipped her quite a few dollars the first song and then went back to his table. No one else was tipping so I went up and tipped her a good amount and went back to the bar.

Finished watching the Cavs game and chatting with the bar-back that was restocking the bar and taking out the trash. My drink was getting a little low but it was just about on the hour and a manager, I would guess, started to bring in some more liquor and do a ring out on the cash register. Another bartender showed up was rearranging the liquor bottles behind the bar and something on her cell phone. This went on for over 20 minutes and neither of the bartenders came over to see if I wanted another drink. But none of the other customers at the bar were attended to either. There were about 6 or 7 dancers in the table area but I had only seen two dance.

The second dancer that was on stage went back up and started to do another couple of songs, guess the dancers dance whenever they feel like it? Went up again and tipped her again because she was at least trying to work for some tips. Again went back to the bar to my now empty glass and the manager and two bartenders were still doing something with the cash register and the one on her cell phone. Wanted to maybe get some dances from the number two dancer on stage but she rushed back to the back room after getting off stage, so I decided that this was not going to get that much better and headed for the door. Not sure if this a typical night at Magic City, so maybe I’ll give it another try. Maybe when the weather turns a little warmer than freezing for day time highs?
