Off the beaten path
I only found out about the Red Tie because a dancer I know was working here part time. Its tucked away in a little industrial neighborhood in Van Nuys on a side street virtually deserted after business hours. I showed up about 10:30pm with a free entry pass found on Yelp. They charged me $10 for a drink anyway, so I think they get you for $10 no matter what. No booze sold inside, but the street outside was so devoid of traffic I saw a bunch of guys just hanging out in the middle of the street openly drinking and smoking weed in full view of security. Nobody seemed to care. Everything is pretty nice in the club. It's clean and the furniture seems newish. One drawback is that being a "gentleman's club" there's a bathroom attendant that expects a tip. No dress code as far as I know.
I was told that the Red Tie is known as an after hours spot, open well after the bars close. I was a little on the early side and TONS of dancers showed up ahead of the rush. There's one big stage and I was the only one tipping there for a good while. I was surprised that I wasn't getting much individual attention but as I discovered later in the evening when it got busy, this is the kind of club where people straight up make it rain. Hundreds in ones being thrown around. They were not impressed with the few singles I was putting out there.
The DJ calls out dance "specials" from time to time, but I think the prices are already fixed at 1 for 30, 2 for 40, 3 for 60. This eastern european dancer had been trying to convince me to get a dance ever since I walked in the door. She offered 2 for 40 and I took it. Wise choice. The dance area isn't totally private but private enough. Hard to explain, but It's a dimly lit corridor with benches that wraps around the main room. From there you can see everything happening in the main room but someone would have to turn around to try to catch a peek into the darkness to see the private dances. You pay the guy at the cash register for the dances up front and he pays the girls their share immediately. I think it's up to the dancer you're with whether this type of dance is topless or fully nude. My girl was not shy in any way. $40 well spent and she didn't even hint about wanting a tip. (of course YMMV)
The club started filling up around midnight and my dancer friend and I headed to the VIP (priced as follows: 10min for 100, 20min for 150, 30min for 250, 60min for 400) The VIP area is just past the bar in its own room. I actually think I like the lap dance area better than the VIP in some ways though... First of all, it was unfortunately well lit. There were maybe 6 or 8 chaise lounges which I found to be uncomfortable not to mention that they were in full view of one another and security. The dances were totally nude but with no privacy I feel like my mileage was limited.
Overall, I had a good time and will likely make the trip back to the Red Tie again someday
