Holy floor action, Batman!
Somebody please hit me upside the head with a 2x4, cause I've been a dumbass.
I haven't been to Follies in the 2000's, since I moved from midtown to OTP. There were three reasons I used for why I didn't go:
1) it was too far away; OK, so this one was still true. I drove south on Buford Highway so long I thought I was going to roll up in McDonough.
2) back in the late 90's, Follies was the place you went when PP was too busy, or was charging giant cover cause they had pornstar XYZ doing feature shows. It never had many dancers and was kind of run down; OK, so it's much busier now, had lots of dancers, but it's still run down.
3) the current stories I heard made it sound dangerous (security packing heat; pat downs on way in), seedy (too dark to see; trashy), druggy, and skanky (dancers that don't speak English; a little tooo friendly & greedy). OK, so the security at the door was a little intimidating, but it did make me feel more comfortable once inside. I didn't think it was too dark, although I think the amount of blacklight used is too much. Everyone's hair and teeth looked green. It was definitely trashy, but kind of reminded me of a honky-tonk bar I helped a friend open once. You're so busy, you just let it go, and clean it up after closing. There was definitely the smell of weed in the air (good thing my current job doesn't do random drug testing), but I didn't get the sense there was anything else going on.
