The Mermaid certainly isn't for everyone - if you go simply by appearances, many people would be too intimidated with the club's clientelle to give the place a chance.

Drinks are inexpensive and the people are friendly. Although you aren't likely to find any Playboy models on stage, the girls you will find will give you the time of day and won't try to hassle every last penny out of you. Buy a beer, pull up a chair and stay awhile.

During the day the crowds are light, but it picks up in the early evenings.
