Sugar 44 was not on my original list of clubs to hit on my trip to Phoenix, but I happened to pass by and figured I'd stop in. It is a very easy to find location right on a main road next to McDonalds. I arrived at around 7pm, there was a $10 cover. Bouncer was super friendly, didn't ask for ID or pat me down, simply apologized that there wasn't an open table, but he directed me to a seat at the bar, and said he'd let me know as soon as a table opened up, which he did. The general manager was bartending, and he was so darn friendly, it really was like visiting Cheers. I never would have said it matters too much how nice the guys working the door and bar are, but in this case, it made a difference and added to the neighborhood bar atmosphere as a place I would visit for a drink and to watch a game.

Onto the important stuff, the smallish main room has a stage in the middle and there were probably 15 or so girls working, dancing in 2-song rotations on the stage. The quality of the dancers was OK, but certainly not great. Almost all white, a few young, a few older. Even a couple I might call too old, but they were all friendly. I noticed the majority of the dancers asking most customers for dances. Dances on the floor were $10, a couple of the girls said specifically no touching on the floor, though a few allowed moderate 2 way contact. It's not a place I'd go to get more than a handful of floor dances just to pass the time.

The VIP dances were $20/song in a raised section behind a wall, though not exactly hidden. Anyone could easily peek in on the VIP, but I didn't notice any bouncers checking the area at all.

Of the 15 or so dancers, I found 3 that I liked well enough to try VIP. All 3 allowed full above the waist contact and were very into it. One particular 30-year old blonde became an instant favorite and I ended up spending most of the night with her. $20/song goes a pretty long way when you find someone that is exactly what you are looking for. There were no extras or OTC offers, and it doesn't seem likely that there would be with anyone that I talked to all night.

Overall, if the one dancer I loved hadn't been there, I would've only spent maybe an hour and had a good enough time, but certainly not enough to recommend going for the dancers, with clearly better quality around town.
