Better than its Press Clippings
Visited Club Pink on an impulse last Thursday afternoon, and I had a good enough time to return the following day. I'm a big fan of Broward County clubs, and am fortunate to be in South Florida several times a year on business. I had just visited the Porthole Pub and decided to check out Club Pink. It's close by--just South of Sample Rd. on Powerline. The exterior is nondescript, essentially a grey-sided box with an adjoining parking lot and enough signage to allow an out-of-towner to locate it. The lot is small, but I found a spot both afternoons; no charge to park, no cover (at 5:00 pm), and a 2-for-1 drink special (Bud was $7.50 plus tip for 2). Inside, the club is dark (even the ceiling is painted black) and a little tatty, but in better condition than, say, the Booby Trap. Smallish interior, low ceiling, smoky. Along the North wall is the DJ booth and some bench seating; the bar is along the South wall; near the center is the main stage (which is only raised a few inches above floor level) surrounded by a tip rail. A very small second stage shares the West wall with seating; the private dance area is to the East, along with the restrooms and changing room. A mixed, "after work" crowd present--the bar was basically full both days at happy hour.
Dancers were predominantly AA--all 10 dancers on Thursday, and 5/6 dancers Friday. Age and looks covered a wide range, with no one above a 7 and a tendency toward ghetto. A couple of outstanding stage shows among the group on that tiny stage, including one amazingly fit short girl. The DJ played hip-hop loud, as expected. Nothing uncomfortable about the place for a pasty, 60+ white boy such as myself--there appeared to be a number of regulars in my cohort, the bartender was courteous and efficient, and the dancers were all about a good time. What sets Club Pink apart from neighboring clubs is the absence of hustle. Dancers were there to have a good time, it seemed, with lots of playful interaction and virtually no pressure for dances or VIP. If you want to hear, "hey Papi, wanna dance?" you're in the wrong club. The girls I interacted with were cool with hanging out and sharing a drink (BTW dancer drinks were $12 or so). The customer count was a little higher on Friday, but (oddly) there were fewer dancers on shift; this confirmed the sense that the place is hit-or-miss in the talent department. There didn't seem to be a kitchen, but on Friday a gentleman towing a smoker behind his pickup was selling barbecue, without a doubt the best I have eaten in Florida. Never explored the VIP area; there was a 3-for-$30 dance special offered that no one took advantage of (totally unlike the Porthole's 2-for-1 special). The dancers are fun-loving and open-minded enough that there is probably fun to be had. As for me, I liked the vibe, the beer was cold, and I incurred record-low spending in a strip club (less than $40 over two hours). Net, I'm in agreement with member twentyfive--if you go with no expectations, you may surprise yourself and have a good time.
