Visited: Saturday Evening

I came to this club on a Saturday evening with a friend and it was our first and last time. We just finished watching the Jays game and decided to check out a ripper bar. Since we were close to Union, this club was the closest so we were drawn to it because of the accessibility. But apparently we didn't get the memo beforehand. When you enter this club, you will find that it looks like you stepped into a time machine and returned to the 80s. The interior is completely tacky and outdated. There is a red chair on the stage with tassels in the background that is strangely akin to my high school dance in 1985. Anywho, we weren't exactly there for the decor and Zanzibar isn't exactly well known for being a classy joint anyway. Drinks are the standard price about $8 for a beer. We settled in and found a very low selection of "dancers" if you wish to call them that. Girls were glued to their phones like zombies and talked amongst each other. So, we continued to watch the show. Girls were hardly putting any enthusiasm in the shows we watched. I wasn't expecting cirque du soleil but something more than simply walking from pole to pole. The music is a mix of old r and b, rock and top 40. After 15 minutes or so, one of the dancers decided to approach my friend. She sat on his lap and whispered something to which he politely declined. This dancer turned nasty and started nasty and swore at him. Now, this is where we knew we got lucky. Just so you know do not be suckered into their VIP area(which in case you weren't aware has a $20 cover fee) so you are basically spending $40 on your first song!

There were two guys arguing with the bouncer about the money the owed these dancers. The management also got involved and was bullying these guys into paying a rather large sum of money they had refuted. I am not sure what happened but they were complaining that 3 songs does not equal $120. So, basically this just killed our mood and we decided to get the heck out of there.

Verdict: The Brass Rail is located just up the street and one block from the Bloor-Yonge subway station. We personally found the girls to be much friendlier, hotter and no drama! There is also no cover fee to enter the VIP room. Thank God we got out of the zanz on time.
