uneventful visit

Sammy's has not changed the layout in a few years. Several years ago, there was a satellite stage in the middle of the main room; now, it's just the main stage. As you walk in, the bar is straight ahead and toward the right; the stage is in that area too. There are chairs to the left for dances and apparently a VIP area there too, but I didn't utilize either. The club is clean enough and they no longer allow smoking; a change since my last visit. They have a covered patio for smoking out the back door; had a couple dancers ask me to accompany them to the patio while they smoked and chit chat. The atmosphere was fine, no problems with safety.

There were not many patrons there this even and several of the dancers were hanging with what I assume were regulars. The quality of the entertainment is mixed. Years ago, I found the dancers very attractive here but this visit found quite a bit of cellulite, baby damage and overweight girls. I will say that the few I talked to had a good attitude and were pleasant. I actually remembered one of the dancers from a club in the Gadsden area that I was "forced" to go to several years ago. There was a bit of drama between a couple dancers; they kept it in check, but there was friction and drama/stress is something I'm usually wanting to get away from. I was asked to take a couple dancers to VIP, but declined; one of those dancers pushed fairly hard, but when she was finally convinced that I wasn't going, she quickly said she was sorry and got up; I don't blame her, just took her a while to realize that no thank you really meant I wasn't going to VIP.

As far as Birmingham goes, it's ok. If you remember that it's Alabama and not a premium location for high mileage, low costs strip joints, you can accept it for what it is and relax with a couple beverages. I don't remember the exact costs, but the drinks were "strip joint reasonable" and the VIP and chair dances were way too much.
