Meh
The Rail seems content to keep its niche as Toronto's downtown tourist trap. One of the most frustrating aspects by far of a trip to the Rail is the physical layout of the club. Seats aren't plentiful and you always feel congested. Beers and drinks are Vegas prices for a place about 1/10th as exciting as a Vegas club.
As for the dancers, it's tougher and tougher to find a gem in here. Also, a lot of faces that have been around for years.
The club will never lower their drink prices so as a radical idea - why not relax the ridiculous Toronto-wide rule also in effect here of no hip hop or rap and play the music at a reasonable (high enough) volume. By no means is hip hop or rap my favourite music, but when you're in a club - it should feel like you're in a club, not at the symphony. You feel it in Vegas when they rock the place with the most current tunes. It really makes a difference.
